Over a dozen stories are featured in windows all around downtown Victoria, but only a single page of a story is in each window

A literary adventure in downtown storefronts is showcasing the talents of Victoria’s young writers over the next week. About a dozen stories are in windows all around downtown Victoria.

The literary scavenger hunt is called StoryPath and is a project of the Story Studio Writing Society, a local charity that runs writing workshops for vulnerable youth. Russell Books store manager Zoe Dickinson said she is a big supporter of the project. “They’re so cute. Each page has a little drawing, and then the story that goes with it,” Dickinson said. “They’re just adorable.”

The first StoryPath was inspired by the pandemic, said Story Studio executive director Sean Rodman. “We couldn’t have events to bring kids together and so we thought: Let’s do something where people can be outside.”Story Studio workshops this year have helped 650 children learn how to write stories, Rodman said, adding that the organization focuses on providing free workshops for English language learners, new arrivals or otherwise under-resourced children.

Many of the children’s stories end up getting published and turned into anthologies, which then become available in libraries and bookstores.
