“Most teams in this league have a good goalie. Roddy Ross (of the Seattle Thunderbirds) is a good goalie. You have to find ways to beat them.”
The Victoria Royals took points off the Vancouver Giants in six of the teams’ 10 games this regular season, and Victoria goaltender Griffen Outhouse was voted first star four times and second star on another occasion.
“Most teams in this league have a good goalie. Roddy Ross is a good goalie. You have to find ways to beat them. He’s had a splendid run with Victoria, fashioning a 114-60-11-4 record in his four seasons there, to go with a 2.77 goals against average and .917 save percentage. Even with that, he hasn’t received any substantial NHL interest yet. He’s certainly running out of time in that regard, which, you’d think, would make him a potentially dangerous adversary for Vancouver.
There was some speculation that Victoria might deal Outhouse at the Jan. 10 trade deadline, considering they were well back of Vancouver, the Everett Silvertips and the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Conference standings, and considering that Portland had surrendered six draft picks to obtain netminder Joel Hofer from the Swift Current Broncos.
