The 30-unit tiny-home community on a portion of the Royal Athletic Park parking lot will remain where it sits until the end of September.
Council also voted to “strongly encourage” B.C. Housing to consider additional security for the perimeter and vicinity of the village to mitigate any negative impacts to the community. Coun. Dave Thompson said he had heard the same concerns Hammond had, but stressed Victoria police, the fire department and the city’s bylaw officers strongly support the extension until September.
“We would have more people losing the stabilization that they had gained and there’s every likelihood that it would actually make the problem worse,” he said.“And I’m sorry that folks are experiencing — it is not safe for people to have to handle other people’s bodily waste,” she said. “However, if we don’t extend, then I think it’s really regressive and inhumane to leave the majority of folks in Tiny Town without support.
