Moratorium cuts down number of options
Trustees with the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board are supporting a resolution by the Ontario Public School Board Association asking the provincial government to lift the moratorium on school accommodation reviews.
Such detailed reviews of which schools are overutilized and underutilized must be done before boards can make decisions on school closures or consolidations. The local board’s decision to support lifting the moratorium on reviews comes as a detailed consultant’s report showing Bayside and Centennial Secondary schools along with Harmony Public as being over capacity while some other schools are well under capacity.
There are other options open to school boards to deal with capacity problems such as adding portables or changing school boundaries.
