Qantas has appointed ex-Air New Zealand executive Cam Wallace to head up its international arm.

Qantas has appointed former Air New Zealand executive Cam Wallace to lead its resurgent international business, adding a wild card to the race to replace chief executive Alan Joyce on his expected retirement later this year.

Mr Wallace will take over from Qantas International and Freight’s Andrew David on July 1. Mr David, also in charge of Qantas Domestic after the roles were combined during the pandemic, will stay on until September. “He brings over two decades of airline experience including his long career at Air New Zealand, with responsibilities spanning sales, revenue management, market development, alliances and cargo,” Mr Joyce said.

“It’s the world leader in opening up direct international routes, and Project Sunrise is one of the most exciting things happening in aviation. I’m really looking forward to working with Alan and the team,” he said.Mr David, whose outsourcing of around 2000 ground handlers during the pandemic was found to be illegal by the Federal Court, said he would spend time with his family in New Zealand after retiring in September.
