THUNDER BAY — Three members of the Thunder Bay Police Service have received recognition for saving a person's life.
They responded quickly to an emergency situation that occurred while they were on the job at the Thunder Bay Courthouse last month. On Sept. 19, Special Constables Ted Krzystofcyk, Mark Barstead and Jamie Maijala received a distress call on the 5th floor, where a visitor had gone into medical distress.Maijala administered an automated external defibrillator, and the trio continued to provide first aid until paramedics arrived.
The patient was then taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and continues to recover. At Tuesday's meeting of the Thunder Bay Police Services Board, the three constables were presented with Certificates of Recognition by Acting Chief of Police Dan Taddeo and board administrator Malcolm Mercer.
