Three snowboarders were injured when they fell off their chairlift at Thredbo ski resort in gusty conditions on Saturday.
Two women in their 20s were treated for back injuries and a man in his 20s suffered facial injuries following the fall from the Kosciuszko Chairlift at about 2.20pm. A fourth passenger was not hurt.
Two patients were transported via helicopter to Canberra Hospital and the other was taken to Cooma Health Service.Thredbo resort issued a statement, saying the broken chairlift was “caused by a freak gust of wind”. “There were no major injuries caused, no other guests or chairs were affected. Thredbo is committed to the safety of our guests and our people,” resort said.
“The incident is currently being thoroughly investigated by SafeWork NSW and an independent engineer. Thredbo assures guests that their safety is paramount and that we will continue to apply our high standards of safety and risk management.”The four-seat lift was upgraded from two seats in 1990.was recorded shortly before the incident at the weather station located near the chairlift top station.In 2019 a chair became dislodged from the Gunbarrel chairlift at Thredbo.
