Need a break? This is the Holy Grail of holidays: 10 days off for the price of three days' leave

It's the Holy Grail of holidays: 10 days off for the price of three days' leave. That means those working a Monday-to-Friday week can secure 10 work-free days if they take April 23, 24 and 26 as annual leave.

"It’s a good opportunity for everybody to take some time out of the office," said Mercedes-Benz communications head Sasha Trakilovic. "Usually before the start of the year I check when there are long holidays, so we can plan whether we're going on a camping trip or an overseas holiday," she said. Her husband Ali, an IT worker, got the three days off in February. Their three-year-old son recently started day care, but Ana said they were happy to take him out.

"This way there's no need for construction workers to use their personal leave or chuck a sickie over Easter, because they’ve worked for the days off," a CFMEU spokesman said. Almost all schools across Victoria will still be in business, and for some parents, including Tracy Beuglehole, the days off are too high a price to pay.
