The Greens’ first term housing spokesman has continued his war of words with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over the country’s rental and housing crisis as a deal on the government’s landmark future fund remains in limbo.

Legislation on the $10 billion fund to build affordable and social housing was set to go to a vote in the Senate this week but was delayed by the Greens and the Coalition until October.

Mr Albanese accused the minor party and the Coalition of delaying the vote to keep the issue alive at the next election. He claimed without the party's negotiation, Australia “may not have seen a single home built for years”.
