On Monday, 152 fires were confirmed to be burning in the province. At least 114 of them were deemed out of control.

Public Security officials said at a briefing that lightening strikes sparked no less than 100 fires in the course of five or six hours over the weekend. Across Quebec a total of 200,000 hectares of woodland have been affected, said the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina.

While there was some good news in the form of rain in the forecast for the North Shore and Sept-Îles regions, Abitibi-Témiscamingue remains tinder dry and is expected to stay that way for the next five days. Legault said if the situation calms down in the east of the province, firefighters may be transferred to the west.

Environment Canada expected the particulates in the air in Quebec to become heavier Monday afternoon and continue into Tuesday. Smog especially affects children with asthma and people with respiratory conditions. Those people are urged to limit strenuous activity and stay indoors when possible.
