A review found thousands of staff of the Australian healthcare company had been short changed over a seven-year period. 7NEWS

The incorrectly paid entitlements included wages, shift loading and allowances, as well as superannuation errors for some employees.

Australian Unity initiated the review which discovered the underpayments, and the AFR reports that $6.85 million has since been paid back to 8500 staff, with just four months to reimburse hundreds more staff with the remaining $516,428.Australian Unity said it had “entered into an enforceable undertaking with the FWO”, committing to formally apologising to affected staff and conducting independent audits, among other activities to ensure legal compliance.

“To minimise the risk of these issues reoccurring, we’ve made a number of enhancements to improve our systems and processes.
