Thousands of first home buyers are expected to choose to pay an annual land tax rather than stamp duty as the NSW government’s housing affordability reforms come into effect
Thousands of first home buyers are expected to opt for an annual land tax over stamp duty in the first months of the NSW government’s housing affordability reforms, as a battle about property prices escalates before the state election in March.
The department said some buyers who bought their homes after new laws passed in November were eligible to retrospectively opt in and receive a refund of their stamp duty. The premier described Borsak’s move to refer him to police as a stunt, and said he was focused on creating a long-term economic plan.
