Another 333 Canadians — including Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, Ontario cabinet ministers and MPPs — have been banned from Russia for the alleged “spread of rabid Russophobia” following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The list released Wednesday by the Russian Federation says the latest round of bans is retaliation forimposed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, which this week announced millions more in aid for Ukraine and a $2.4-billion loan.

“Our government’s position on the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine has been very clear,” said Paul Calandra, Ontario’s minister of legislative affairs, who was among those named. “Is it hard to stand up to Russia? Is it hard to stand up to Thomas Bach and the IOC? Absolutely,” FelicianIn Ottawa, the governor general’s office declined to comment.
