The Antique Athletic “AA” League Inter-Town Tournament formally opened its third season recently at the Binirayan Gymnasium in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, drawing hundreds of athletes, coaches, and sports officials from across the province.

The event was highlighted by the presence of Matthew Gaston, who represented the Philippine Sports Commission. Now in its third year, the league’s steady growth is evident. From featuring just four sporting events during its inaugural staging in 2023, the AAL has expanded to eight disciplines this season—basketball, volleyball, arnis, table tennis, badminton, boxing, billiards, and sepak takraw—broadening opportunities for young athletes across Antique.

The expansion underscores the province’s strengthened grassroots sports program, aimed at discovering and developing talents who could eventually represent the Philippines on the international stage. Local officials continue to position the league as a vital platform for nurturing future national athletes while contributing to the overall progress of Philippine sports.

The week-long tournament was backed by key stakeholders, including Senator Loren Legarda, the PSC under Chairman John Patrick Gregorio, and the Department of Education, led by Schools Division Superintendent Ernesto Servillon.
