HALIFAX, N.S. — It was appointment viewing for many Nova Scotia households. The 1st Edition political panel with journalists Harry Fleming and Parker Dunham, moderated by broadcaster Jim Nunn. This past Sunday, Jim Nunn passed away from cancer at the age of 72. Here’s Parker’s look back on the life of his friend, a legendary CBC interviewer with a keen political sense and a cheeky sense of humour.
So at some point during the evening, we went to Port Hawkesbury and Jim interviewed Billy Joe. There was a guy standing behind Billy Joe who was part of his entourage who was roughly the size of two refrigerators. Just a big giant of a man. And Jim is peppering Billy Joe with tough questions. And from behind Billy Joe, this big fellow says, I like to see you come to Port Hawkesbury and ask that question Jim.
He was a dear friend. I'm going to miss him a lot. It's a real a real kick in the gut to have him go so young.And you mentioned the style of journalism that he did. He must have been very plugged in to a lot of the world around him, you could tell he was a learned man.His father was an MLA and a cabinet minister, so he grew up steeped in Nova Scotia politics, specifically Liberal Party politics.
