A manhunt is underway for a thief who stole a car with a sleeping toddler in the backseat over the weekend.
A Melbourne father had ducked into the shops at the beachside suburb of Chelsea, in Melbourne’s south-east, late on Sunday afternoon.

Picture: Victoria Police Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Grant Lewis told reporters on Monday he was glad the boy had not remained in the car with the thief. Victoria Police will not be pressing charges against the boy’s father, who Detective Lewis said was “very traumatised”.“Is it in the public interest to pursue him? No, it’s not.”Comments on Kingston Police’s Facebook post about the incident have been scathing – one woman called for the father to be “charged with negligence”.
