Robin Easey, a police constable and father of two, was shot and profoundly injured after interrupting an armed robbery in September 1984.
Nepean police constable Robin Easey, a father of two young boys, was in hospital, fighting for his life. Another officer was seriously wounded with gunshots to his legs and face. Both officers had been shot after interrupting an about-to-unfold armoured car robbery outside the Bayshore Shopping Centre on the morning of Sept. 1. A manhunt was on for two escaped suspects. A third was dead from a police bullet.
Robin Easey, appears at his first public appearance after being shot. To Easey’s right is his wife Glennis Easey, to his left is son Matthew Easey . Behind Matthew is Ralph ErfleRobin Easey was one of four children born to Nepean police officer Bert Easey, a staff sergeant, and his wife. Following high school, Easey worked construction and explored the possibility of going to the Ontario Agricultural College, but he was eager to settle down, so joined the Nepean police force at the age of 21.
As he approached the vehicle, Easey was surprised to see a man bolt from the passenger door and run down a nearby stairwell. In the same moment, Const. Ralph Erfle arrived in a second marked cruiser and gave chase. As he would again and again, Easey upended conventional medical wisdom. He emerged from his coma after six weeks and began a long, hard road of physical and cognitive rehabilitation. He spent more than a year at a facility in Cortland, N.Y., since there was no facility in Ottawa tailored to the needs of people with traumatic brain injuries.
Robin Easey and his wife Glennis Easey were all smiles watching the motorcycles line up at the first annual Ride for Robin which took place Saturday August 15, 2015 starting from Rideau Carleton Raceway and making their way to Kemptville. The ride honours Robin Easey a former police officer who was shot when responding to an armed robbery at Bayshore Shopping Centre in 1984.
