The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked the majority of cases to international travel.
There have been more U.S. measles cases so far this year than in all of 2023, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
So far this year, the CDC said 17 different states reported measles cases, compared to 20 jurisdictions for all of 2023. Symptoms can include a runny nose, cough, rash, red and watery eyes, and small white spots on the inside of the cheeks, according to the CDC. In some cases, measles can lead to blindness, an encephalitis infection that can cause brain swelling or damage, severe diarrhea, and trouble breathing.
