Sofronio Vasquez, the first Filipino and Asian to win 'The Voice USA,' opened up about his late father's unwavering support during his musical journey.
Mindanao native Sofronio Vasquez , the first Filipino and Asian to win 'The Voice USA,' got emotional recalling his time competing in Manila while his father was battling kidney failure . During his guesting on 'Fast Talk with Boy Abunda' this Thursday, Sofronio remembered his late father , who passed away in 2018, often telling him, 'Sing your heart out.' 'Noong time na lumalaban ako sa competition sa Manila, nandoon na siya sa end part ng pakikipaglaban niya sa kidney failure .
He just told me na whether... ah this is hard,' Sofronio said, pausing briefly and becoming emotional. 'Kung wala na siya, 'Just know that I'll be there. Kahit saan.' And I felt that,' he continued. Afterward, Sofronio emotionally sang a part of Luther Vandross's 'Dance with My Father,' which he dedicated to his mother. Sofronio migrated from the Philippines to America to pursue his musical dreams. He thanked his father for instilling in him a love for music, calling him his first singing coach. Although he became a dentist, Sofronio returned to singing as a tribute to his father after his passing. In the finals of season 26 of 'The Voice USA,' Sofronio captivated the audience with his renditions of Sia's 'Unstoppable' and 'A Million Dreams' from 'The Greatest Showman.' Although Michael Bublé was his coach, Sofronio admitted that a different coach first came to mind. Find out who it was in this video from 'Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.' -- FRJ, GMA Integrated New
