Irish football does not need a foreign mercenary - the answer to their managerial problems is right in front of their noses.

Paddy McCarthy is an up and coming coach with experience in the Premier League; Glenn Whelan is an old pal of McCarthy’s and also knows O’Shea well. Each grew up within a square mile of each other in Dublin’s inner city and when you are a child of that area, you quickly learn to be street smart. Those skills transfer well into a football set-up. You have a heightened awareness of space because all your life has been spent in a hub of activity.
