For every question scientists on the research vessel Kaganovsky have answered, a new mystery appears.
Scientific tests performed by the Russian research vessel Kaganovsky were expected to harvest an abundance of pink salmon, which are more numerous than the other Pacific salmon species combined. That hasn’t happened.
The other possibility is that the expedition has somehow missed their rearing grounds and they are looking in the wrong place.Coho have been the second-most abundant in the test fisheries, despite being one of the least abundant of the Pacific species. So, what exactly are they doing 1,000 kilometres from land? None of the scientists on board is quite sure.
