Each officer will ride a former Musical Ride horse gifted to the Royal Family, specifically: George, Elizabeth, Sir John, Darby and Noble., all mounted police officers, who perform intricate drills, exercises and formations to music. The performances last about 30 minutes and “demand the utmost control, timing, and co-ordination,” according to the troop’s website.
“The RCMP has shared a particularly special relationship with the Royal Family through its mutual gifting of horses,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Kim Chamberland told the Star. “Our most recent gift, Noble, was presented to the King last month, furthering our long-standing tradition.”, given Queen Elizabeth II’s interest in the animals. Since 1969, the RCMP presented the late queen with eight horses. The queen gifted the organization two horses in return.
