A back-to-back evening of prestige indie rock, with Fleet Foxes' majestic folk complementing The National's artfully maudlin poetry.

As much as they appeal to the midlife crisis set , The National have also become hugely popular with a younger generation of fans.. But also, because their dependable 'Nick Cave fronting The Smiths' vibe is a snug fit for moody playlists – streaming catnip for bookish Uni students and depressed grown-ups alike.

Cuts from their breakout 2008 self-titled debut sound like The Beach Boys in a log cabin, while fan faves 'White Winter Hymnal' and 'Mykonos' offer up golden vocal harmonies worthy of a cathedral. It's the aural equivalent of wiping down a dusty stain glass window to let light shine through and illuminate the colours and craft beneath.

There's probably none better than their triumphant closer, 'Helplessness Blues'. The title track to their 2011 album finds Pecknold pondering his precarious place in the world but also the thrill of possibility, culminating in an idyllic fantasy of living off an apple orchard with a golden-haired partner.

Where some of their newer recordings have become a little bloodless , The National have always been a great live band. With his buttoned-up blazer and hip glasses, the vocalist resembles an exhausted CEO of a start-up sauntering around the boardroom to greet his adoring employees.
