Pilot program hopes to alleviate stress on ERs | SaltWire

Appointments for the program, which is receiving funding from the provincial government, started on Feb. 1.

We know there's a huge percentage of the population here that doesn't have access to primary care providers. “We're doing assessments for minor ailments, things like heartburn and indigestion, yeast infections, cold sores, were doing strep assessments and prescribing if deemed appropriate,” she said when asked to highlight a few of the benefits.

“Tera could have always helped people with chronic disease management,” she said. “Many would have gone to their physician to get a lab requisition and then come back, but now we can help better in two ways. And in addition, now the sites will be able to order lab tests.

She added to the second point about acute care settings and did so by talking about a recent study done in Ontario that launched a pharmacy program to start the year.
