The Masters, in case you haven’t heard, is a tradition unlike any other.
Augusta National
has quite an interesting nickname, one that I’m certain had never been uttered before being coined by my daughters. Every Spring, when packing to head to the Masters, they ask me if I’m going back to the Little Girls’ Course, and I say yes. That’s right, the course created by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts and forever burned into our minds by Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods, is fondly referred to as the Little Girls’ Course.
Both of these divisive issues, one would think, have the potential to distract from the week ahead. They won’t though, and that is the beauty of the Masters. The issues of the day, both in the golf world and the real world, always find their way into Augusta National, but always, it seems, as mere background noise. The long story of how this is possible is one of passion, power, money, meticulous planning, and generations of developing and nurturing a great tournament.
