FEBRUARY 6 — Currently, the Legal Affairs Division is surveying the suggestion for the drafting of the Freedom of Information Act.
The provisions within the Freedom of Information Act must align, among others, with Malaysia’s obligation under Article 9 and Article 21 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as well as respecting Article 16 and Article 22 . In pursuant to the above provision, the authority shall consult disabled persons of various categories before such platforms or systems are officially adopted;The requester shall have the right to request information and documents to be provided in an alternative format;
The authority may consult or work with organisations representing disabled persons in producing materials in an accessible format or alternative format; Individuals and organisations shall not be required to go through complicated layers of bureaucratic processing in order to request and receive the information and document; and,
