Premier Andrew Furey, along with ministers Andrew Parsons and Elvis Loveless, announced a $30 million immediate relief package for those impacted by the hurricane.
$1,000 per household who temporarily evacuated from their principal residence during the storm and have returned by Sept. 30; or $10,000 per household who have been displaced from their principal residence and have been unable to return by Sept. 30.
There will be an additional $500,000 available to be distributed among impacted communities on the southwest coast of the island, based on a needs assessment. Residents will be required to apply for funding under the Hurricane Fiona Financial Assistance Program via the Canadian Red Cross. Details on the application process and forms will be released in the coming days.
“The devastation experienced by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians is unimaginable. The impacts are far-reaching, with families, communities, businesses and non-profit organizations having to pick up the pieces,” Furey said.
