The Cultch’s 2019/20 season includes perennial favourites such as puppeteer Ronnie Burkett and the East Van Panto as well a new festival.

The East Van institution that is the Cultch announced its 2019/20 season last night. A total of 16 productions have been programmed by executive director Heather Redfern for the three stages. Subscriptions for the 2019/20 season are on sale now. Single tickets go on sale July 15. Call The Cultch’s Box Office at 604-251-1363 or go online at tickets.thecultch.com.

Fans of the smash hit Australian ensemble show Hot Brown Honey won’t want to miss the all-male drag troupe Briefs Factory , another politically charged production from Zee Zee Theatre. This show also includes a separate all-ages sideshow called the Brat Kids Carnival so young people can get in on the fun too.

“Raven Transforming Cabaret Festival is the big new project which we are able to do for the next three years thanks to funding from the Vancouver Foundation,” said Redfern.

“I really felt that we were lagging behind here and missing out and that we needed some sort of vehicle to kickstart things,” she said. “Somewhere that audiences and artists are given permission to be confrontational, a little bit critical, kinda dirty, sexy, a bit of everything. Mostly to have a lot of fun and the cabaret festival seemed like the right idea.”
