Authorities opened up additional shelter spaces to help accommodate them.Those courageous enough in Anderson, Ohio, to brave the storm took to their cars to find shelter, despite council warnings to keep off the roads.Some locals in Kentucky were walking through the storm to try and buy groceries and essentials.

Pictured is Arielle Domaschko of Newport walking home from the store after an unsuccessful shopping trip.Heavy snow combined with strong winds created a white haze over Hendrick's County in Indiana.It was also impossible for flights to go ahead in the treacherous conditions with over 2000 flights cancelled across the US. Some in Seattle were forced to leave their cars on the side of the road to escape the dangerous driving conditions.

Some stuck without electricity tried to charge their phones in their car, only to be snowed into the vehicle.
