Heavy rain has increased the risk of bushfires in parts of Australia this summer, while other areas remain waterlogged.
Australia’s fire agencies are using artificial intelligence to help plan for successive bushfire seasons by analysing masses of data to decide when to back-burn and scouring satellite images to identify ignition points.
“A lot of the agencies are currently looking at how they do multi-year planning for their bushfire seasons to be totally on the front foot, not only six months in advance, but potentially years ahead,” said Mr James, who was most recently chief digital and information officer of Vodafone and TPG Telecom.
