DevOps engineers, cybersecurity specialists and software developers will be the three most in-demand professionals next year, according to a major recruiter.

The company’s head of people in Australia, Kim Vittorio, said CIT expects to hire in all business areas next year, but will have a particular focus on senior iOS and Android developers. After a “challenging” year for recruitment in 2022, she believes competition for these skills will remain fierce in 2023.“We’re also anticipating really strong demand for user experience designers, particularly [those] focused on accessibility,” Ms Vittorio said.

“We’re seeing more and more businesses focused on accessibility, ensuring that applications are accessible for all people.” An example of this type of work is adding screen readers that read aloud content that is displayed on a webpage or app to help visually impaired customers.Another trend is the concentration of skills shortages at the more senior level. Ms Vittorio said demand is particularly strong for more experienced tech workers as companies are using increasingly sophisticated technology and need more highly skilled workers to manage it.

“Also, we want more than just the technology skills. It’s about the soft-skill side of things as well,” Ms Vittorio said.“So, looking at people who are real culture carriers, for example, and [who have] really great communication skills, are more innovative and looking to keep up with tech trends and willing to learn and grow with the business.”T experienced a 33 per cent increase in the average time it took to hire developers and other in-demand roles.
