NRL: The NRL 360 panel discuss whether Nicho Hynes will get picked for the NSW State of Origin halves as he faces his biggest audition this weekend against the melbourne Storm.
Craig Fitzgibbon has responded to critics suggesting the top of the table Sharks are pretenders until they beat the top teams consistently and deliver when it matters most come finals time .
“And we sort of balanced it out a little bit better so far, but there’s a long way to go and we’ve still got a fair bit to work on to be perfectly honest. But we’ve been relatively consistent so far.”The Sharks have been criticised for being flat track bullies and for failing to stand up and peak at the right time of the season.
“And then last year agonisingly close against who we were calling the form team of the Premiership, the Roosters at the back end.“We fell agonisingly short and that hurt. We fell short by a field goal, that really hurt. Given the tough way their 2023 season ended on the back of a field goal against the Roosters, Fitzgibbon wants to focus on earning the right to play finals and then peak at the right time of year to make a splash when they get there.
One area that gives Fitzgibbon confidence the Sharks are heading in the right direction is the improvement in Nicho Hynes’ game, with the star halfback playing even better than when he won the Dally M Medal in 2022. “So yeah, he’s more ready, whether he gets an opportunity, I’m not entirely sure, but I think that he’s improving in his game as a halfback and I also think he’s not at his potential yet either.
