Thailand defeated the Philippines 3-1 in the second leg of the ASEAN Championship semifinals to advance to the final. The Philippines made history by reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2018 and defeating Thailand in the first leg.
The Philippines ended its journey in the 2024 ASEAN Championship (AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup) after losing to Thailand 3-1 (4-3 on aggregate) in the second leg of the semifinals held in Bangkok on Monday. The match took over 100 minutes to be decided with Suphanat Mueanta scoring the winning goal for Thailand in the 116th minute of extra time. Bjorn Kristensen kept the Philippines' hopes alive with a goal in the 84th minute, equalizing the aggregate score at 3-3 and forcing extra time.
Thailand took the lead in the 38th minute through Peeradol Chamratsamee, and doubled it with Patrik Gustavsson's goal in the 54th minute. Despite the loss, the Philippine Men's National Football Team made history by reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2018 and defeating Thailand for the first time in 52 years in the first leg of the semifinals
