Ten states record trade surplus in August

Total trade amounted to RM213 billion, with exports and imports recorded at RM115.2 billion and RM97.9 billion respectively.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’ trade surplus rose 0.1% year-on-year to RM17.3 billion in August.

According to the statistics department, 10 states registered a trade surplus, namely Penang, Sarawak, Johor, Sabah, Labuan, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, Kelantan and Perlis. Chief statistician Uzir Mahidin said exports dropped 18.6% y-o-y due to lower exports in most states.The only increase in exports were witnesses in Labuan , Kedah and Negeri Sembilan .

Penang remained as the top exporter with a 28.8% share, followed by Johor , Selangor , Sarawak and Kedah .Leading the decline in imports was Johor , followed by Penang , Selangor , Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur .Selangor continued to dominate Malaysia’s imports with a share of 27.7%, followed by Johor , Penang , Kuala Lumpur and Kedah .
