The freezing rain early Monday amplified the issues from southern Alberta's recent snow event.
A layer of ice sits under the snow on many surfaces – producing some very slippery conditions for pedestrians and vehicles.
As of 5 a.m. Monday, northwest Calgary received 21 centimetres of snow, Cochrane had 19 centimetres and, as of Monday night, parts of Lake Louise reported 26 centimetres of accumulation. Temperatures will continue to sit below freezing and far below seasonal until at least Saturday with the coldest values expected overnight tomorrow.
