A concerning rise in armed robberies by GTA teens has now led to at least one confirmed school shooting, police said Friday, highlighting a spill-over in violence that has left investigators worried about what happens next.
. All those arrested to date have been youth under the age of 18.
Two weeks before the Weston C.I. shooting on Feb. 3, Peel Police say the two 17-year-old accused were first believed to have robbed at least two currency exchange stores in Peel Region at gunpoint. Police raided a property in Mississauga with search warrants and located both teens, charging them with attempted murder. At the time, police also recovered a firearm and stolen property, including the car. Investigators say there could be further charges.
Harris said the charges are an example of what he calls a “hybrid” crime, where non-luxury cars are being stolen, not for resale, but to use in other crimes, like armed robberies.
