A teenager has been shot dead by police in Perth’s south after stabbing a civilian and phoning authorities to warn them he was going to commit further “acts of violence”.
Teenager enrolled in de-radicalisation program over extremist ideologies shot dead by police in Willetton after stabbing man, lunging at officers with knife
WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said three officers responded to the scene within minutes of being alerted, arriving to find a sole male running around the carpark holding a large kitchen knife. The Commissioner said he had watched back the officers’ bodycam footage and was satisfied the response had been proportionate to the level of threat posed.
“Our police responded within minutes. They encountered a very confronting situation, but their rapid and professional response kept our community safe. I’ve called a meeting of the multi-faith community leaders, which I will attend later today.”Officers said they were not aware of a victim until after the teenager was shot. The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
