A teenage boy is still missing after getting caught in the surf at a notorious Mornington Peninsula beach on Friday night, where a large-scale rescue was needed to save another teen and an adult.
Emergency services were called to Gunnamatta surf beach in Fingal at about 6.45pm, following reports a man and two teenagers were struggling in the water.A man in his 40s and one of the teenage boys was rescued. Both were taken to Frankston Hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The second teenage boy was still missing on Saturday morning, with the SES, Lifesaving Victoria, search and rescue police, and the air wing scouring the Mornington Peninsula coast. BeachSafe describes Gunnamatta surf beach as a very exposed and high-energy beach, which has a “wide, rip dominated surf zone”.“This is a potentially hazardous beach for swimming, with usually high waves and strong rips close to shore,” theThe beach remained closed on Saturday morning, with transport authorities shutting Truemans Road in Fingal from the waterfront up to Sandys Road due to emergency service vehicles in the area.
