Ted Blakeley came to Tom Price to help babysit his grandchild. Eight years later his coffee van is one of the most popular joints in town.

Almost half the town in WA's Pilbara works in iron ore mining, heading off to site at the crack of dawn.

"Well I think that's just keeping interactive with the opposite sex, if that's your go," Mr Blakeley said.Mr Blakeley first came to Tom Price from the beachside Perth suburb of Scarborough around eight years ago to help his daughter with her new child."So I said, 'Well you're going to have to find me something to do, I'm not coming up there just to pick the kids up and cook you dinner'.

"Sometimes they don't even have the time of day to say g'day, whereas here people will always stop to see how you are."As well as the regulars and the tourists, Mr Blakeley says there's always some surprising customers.training the animals
