The Canada Winter Games will kick off in PEI today with a number of athletes from this province representing Team NL in a variety of sporting events.David Adey of Corner Brook is participating in two events at the games. He’ll be competing in the biathlon and cross country skiing.
He says it’s two difficult sports to train for, but he’s excited to represent his province and cheer on other athletes. He says he’s looking forward to competing in the race, and watching other sports such as wheelchair basketball. Wheelchair basketball athlete Cassandra McGrath says the sport is not overly popular in this province, so they’ve teamed up with Nova Scotia to form their team.
She says they’ve practiced together many times for other tournaments and the athletes from both provinces are close.
