The Victorian state government has declared Taylor Swift’s upcoming tour a major event, bringing the two concerts planned for the MCG next February under the umbrella of anti-scalping legislation.
for regular tickets, and as high as $1249 for the limited edition “it’s been a long time coming” package , demand is expected to far outstrip supply.for Swift’s long-anticipated Eras tour last November, there were more than 3 billion requests for the 2 million tickets available for presale to verified fans.
The move by the Victorian government, which comes the day after the first round of tickets went on presale to American Express cardholders – the second round is on sale Wednesday, to Frontier Touring members – is designed to prevent such exorbitant mark-ups on events deemed to be of significance to, and in high demand from, the general public.Moulin Rouge!
For resales to be capped in this way, an event needs first to be designated “major” by the government. This can only happen with the agreement of the promoter. In New South Wales, tickets merely need to be issued subject to “resale restrictions” in order for an event to be covered by similar provisions. The mark-up on tickets on the secondary market is again capped at 10 per cent. The NSW government has been contacted for comment.
Additionally, the promoter, Frontier, states it “cannot guarantee any ticket purchase made through any means other than Authorised Ticketing Agents .”
