PORT KLANG: A tanker has been detained for anchoring without permission off the coast of Sekinchan.

Selangor Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency director Maritime Captain Siva Kumar Vengadasalam said the ship was detected at 10.20am on Wednesday based on information from the Klang Malaysian Maritime Sea Surveillance System’s Area Control Centre.

“The ship is believed to be heading from Saudi Arabia to Japan with 26 male crew members, including the captain, aged between 24 and 64,” he said in a statement yesterday.“The captain failed to submit documents for permission to anchor and is suspected of having committed an offence under Section 491B of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952.
