She is already a Dally M Medal winner and a four-time premier, but Queensland fullback Tamika Upton says she is still improving as a player heading into this year's historic three-game Women's State of Origin series.
Upton said her recovery from a broken back in 2020 put her on the path to being the elite try-scorer and Dally M Medal winner she is today.Queensland fullback Tamika Upton swept all before her in 2023, a year in which she announced herself as the best player in the women's game.Ahead of Game I of the historic three-game Women's State of Origin series at Lang Park on Thursday night, the 27-year-old said there is plenty of improvement still to come.
"I'm pretty in-tune with the team in Newcastle, but I can take it to another level in camps like this."The fullback locks up every defensive line and that is my focus every game, and to help the girls out at the back."Upton's loping ball running, game sense and silky skills are her trademark. "My technique wasn't the best. From that experience I learned preparation and recovery — and so much about myself that I still use now.
