Talk ongoing for special school for hardcore poor students, says Fadhlina

KUALA LUMPUR: Discussions are ongoing on the establishment of a special school meant for hardcore poor children, says Fadhlina Sidek

"Once the details are provided to us, we will update accordingly," the Education Minister told reporters after officiating the Merdeka Exploration Programme @ Museum at the National Museum today .

On Aug 5, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the introduction of a new type of school targeted specifically for students from hardcore poor families was currently being considered. The new type of school would be based on the framework of science-based secondary and fully residential schools catered for the target group.Meanwhile, the Merdeka Exploration Programme @ Muzium 2023 which saw the participation of 621 students from 207 schools across four states, aimed to harness the potential of teachers in producing creative, innovative and meaningful teaching and learning based on cross-curricular elements to increase students' interest in learning.

The programme was a collaboration between the Kuala Lumpur Education Department and the Malaysia Museums Department, involving the participation from four states - Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor and Negri Sembilan. Fadhlina added that the programme was also to foster unity among students not only during the month of Merdeka but in the future as well.
