MELAKA: The state has added a new public transport service – water taxis along Sungai Melaka.

The service, which allows passengers to enjoy the spectacular scenery along the river and escape the hassle of traffic jams, has two boats plying the waterway from Dataran Pengkalan Rama to the river mouth.

“The fare from one jetty to another is priced at RM1 while the full route will cost RM8,” said its chief executive officer Datuk Murad Husin. “We are facing the issue of sediment that impedes the boat movements and are working closely with the Irrigation and Drainage Department to resolve this,” he said.
