Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano has instructed village officials to establish designated fireworks display zones in their respective areas for New Year celebrations. Cayetano encouraged members of the City Council and barangay captains, led by Liga ng mga Barangay President Jorge Bocobo, to ensure the implementation of Ordinance No. 87, Series of 2018.This ordinance designates firecracker zones and prohibits their use near residential areas and other fire-prone locations.
'There are penalties for those who violate the ordinance,' the mayor stated, urging her constituents to report any violators. According to Section 2 of the City Ordinance, 'it shall be unlawful for any person to distribute, discharge, explode, or cause to discharge or explode any firecrackers, pyrotechnic device, or similar devices outside the designated Firecracker Zones.' Cayetano remarked that establishing common fireworks display zones could help reduce fireworks-related injuries. City officials are reminding residents that violators may face penalties, including a fine of P5,000 or three to six months in jail. As of this writing, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has recorded at least 40 pyrotechnic-related incidents, resulting in 24 injuries and five fatalities
