Private schools in Sydney have raised their fees by at least five per cent, as inflationary pressures increase running costs.

Some independent schools have hiked their fees for this year to more than $40,000 for Year 12 students.

Many schools have sent letters to parents informing them about the increases, blaming it on cost increases in facilities maintenance, technology upgrades, insurance and competitive teacher salaries.
