Six people have been charged after an innocent man was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and held for ransom in Sydney's south-west. Undercover police raided the property in Belmore following a secret week-long investigation. em_partridge 9News MORE:
Dozens of police - including tactical and undercover officers - were involved in the top secret rescue mission.
Police will allege the two men arrested were part of a larger group who kidnapped the 26-year-old in front of his family from his Smithfield home. It is alleged the group have been trying to get them to pay a ransom for the past five days however 9News understands no money was exchanged. Police also arrested other men allegedly involved in the kidnapping at vehicle stops at Belmore and Mays Hill.Dozens of officers swarmed the property, with six men arrested nearby or in vehicle stops.
Detectives from the robbery and serious crime squad kept the hostage's family in protection while they searched for the victim, who is not known to police.All of the men allegedly involved in the kidnapping were taken to Campsie and Granville police stations and have been charged with numerous offences including kidnapping for a ransom, aggravated break and enter and causing grievous bodily harm.to receive our daily newsletters and breaking news alerts, sent straight to your inbox.
