The B.C. government has provided funding for 750 additional students for September, but the district\u0027s enrolment is expected to jump by 2,200 new students
When the school district brings in more portables — at a cost of $350,000 a portable — that money comes out of the operating budget, which is used to fund teachers’ salaries and school programs.
“We are playing catch up,” Singh told reporters in Victoria. “The previous government neglected the needs of Surrey students and the Surrey community.” She said her ministry is in conversation with the school district and is “very cognizant” of the increased enrolment.
