The Shelburne County Special Olympics Floor Hockey Team has been practicing hard for the Special Olympics Nova Scotia Winter Games, being held Feb. 10 to 12 at 14 Wing Greenwood. A community send-off to wish the team well is scheduled for Feb. 10 at 10:30 a.m. from the NEEDS convenience store in Shelburne. Yarmouth County will be sending two curling teams, a total of 10 athletes, and two coaches, to the Special Olympics winter games. “We are looking forward to actually getting to compete again, it’s been a long road it’s good to see is getting back to normal,” says Gary Hudson, regional coordinator.
Comeau says the team practices every Tuesday at the Meteghan Curling Club and is excited to be attending the first provincial Winter Games since 2019. There will be roughly 350 athletes and coaches representing 15 regions in Nova Scotia, and also over 100 volunteers, participating at the Winter Games. P.E.I. is also sending a team to compete in a couple of sports.“There’s 35 snowshoers competing and at least 11 hockey teams,” says Arcon.
